My first-ever self-chosen vinyls: Menudo and José Luis Rodríguez. Two very different vibes, but both iconic. Let’s start with Menudo—the OG boy band straight out of the ’80s, with Ricky Martin as their ultimate legacy. Five Latin heartthrobs, my first-ever crushes, and the stars of my very first concert. I was 12 (I think), and my aunt took me, my sister, and my cousins to see them live. The screaming, the crying, the drama—I can still hear it all!
And José Luis Rodríguez? A whole different league. He wasn’t for us kids—no, no, he was the aunties’ crush. The ‘Puma’ had them swooning over his ballads and suave style.
But also about the Menudo concert >> The next day at school? Oh, that was the real show. We all told wild stories about how we met Menudo in person, trading obviously fake tales like it was an Olympic sport. Everyone lied, of course, but who cared? We were living the dream.
